10th April - Soapbox Racers

🚗💨 Get ready to build it, test it… and race it!

In our exciting Soapbox Racers Physical Science holiday program, students become young engineers as they design, construct and customise their very own soapbox racer before putting it to the ultimate test on a launcher track .

But this isn’t just about racing — it’s about discovering the science that makes it all happen!

🔬 What Students Will Explore

⚡ Energy – What is energy and how does it make things move, light up, heat up or change?
🌀 Stored (Potential) Energy – How stretching a rubber band stores energy, ready to be released.
🏎️ Moving (Kinetic) Energy – How stored energy transforms into motion and sends racers zooming down the track!
🎯 Elasticity – How materials stretch and snap back into shape — and why that matters in engineering.

Students will experiment with rubber band launch systems, investigate how far their racer can travel, and refine their designs to improve performance .

14th April - Kaleidoscope Explorers

💡Unlock the Science of Light & Symmetry

Step into a world of infinite patterns! In this session, students become optical engineers as they explore how mirrors are used to reflect and refract light in spectacular ways. This isn't just a craft project; it's a deep dive into the physics of optics.

⚒️The Build: Students will engineer their own high-quality kaleidoscope, learning the geometric precision required to create perfect symmetry.
🎨The Personalisation: Use professional materials—including our signature glitter wraps—to make the scope your own.
🔬The Object Lab: We don't just use beads! Students will experiment with 3D-printed gears, crystals, and nature-based elements to see how different shapes and textures change the optical output.
🏡Take it Home: After a day of experimentation, students select their favourite "Elite Mix" of objects to be professionally sealed into their kaleidoscope for a lifetime of patterns.
